The circular economy is essential to meet the expected increase in demand for metals: by 2030, 30 times more lithium and three times more iron and copper will have to be extracted to meet Quebec's needs if this new economic model is not deployed.

Did you know that...

Half of the lithium currently used in Quebec ends up in bins at the end of its service life?

This is one of the findings that emerges from the study (in French) by the EDDEC Institute and the Ministère de l’énergie et des ressources naturelles (MERN) on metals and the circular economy. It identified 41 circularity strategies and identified the most economically and environmentally relevant ones for the metals in question. This three-year study has been one of the most important contributions to circular economy research in Canada to date.
